See below for the admission requirements and how to apply.

Bowen University Post-UTME/DE Form

Bowen University Post-UTME screening eligibility and registration procedure for 2023/2024 has been published. Applications are being accepted from adequately qualified applicants for admission to BOWEN UNIVERSITY degree programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION/ELIGIBILITY

UTME

  • All applicants are required to sit for 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  • All applicants must have credits in at least five (5) courses from SSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB, or an approved equivalent, including English Language and four other subjects that are specified by each Faculty.
  • The five credits should be obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • The five credits (including Mathematics and English) for Medicine and Surgery (MB; BS), Nursing Science, and Physiotherapy programmes must be obtained in a single sitting, and NABTEB is not accepted.
  • Candidates with awaiting results may apply.
  • All applicants will be required to go through Bowen University Screening Exercise.
  • Applicants are to complete the University Application forms.
  • Interested candidates who have applied to JAMB for admission and wish to change their choice of institution to Bowen University are required to:
  1. Apply for change of institution through JAMB
  2. Complete Bowen University Application Form
  3. Participate in the Bowen University screening process.

DIRECT ENTRY

All applicants for Direct Entry must satisfy any of the following:

    • NCE at credit level, ND and approved equivalents with at least Lower Credit in relevant fields.
    • At least two Advanced Level passes at acceptable grade level.
    • The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB), or Cambridge Moderated School of Basic Studies at acceptable grade levels.

    Candidates must meet the Ordinary Level requirements in addition to NCE/ND/IJMB, JUPEB, or two Advanced Level papers stipulated by each faculty or program.

    HND holders may be admitted to either the 200 or 300 level, depending on the regulations guiding admission to each department / program.

    All direct entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

    Admission Requirements

    O' Level Subjects

    Candidates is required to have five O’ Level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

    For Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Physiotherapy programmes, the five (5) O’ Level credits (including Mathematics and English) must be obtained at one sitting and NABTEB is not acceptable.

    UTME Subjects

    English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

    Direct Entry

    • Advanced Level GCE/Cambridge/IJMB/JUPEB at an acceptable grade level
    • Candidates with B. Sc. Second Class Upper Division in a related discipline can apply for the MB;BS programme.
    • In addition, candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in 2(a) above.
    • For Nursing Science, candidates with RN/SRN plus five (5) O’ level credits including English Language and Mathematics can apply and be admitted to 200 Level.
    • Physiotherapy, Public Health and Nursing, candidates with a degree in relevant discipline not less than 2nd Class Lower Division can apply.
    • For Medical Laboratory Sciences; 
    Candidates holding a minimum of three Advanced Level GCE/Cambridge/IJMB/JUPEB at Grade C pass in each of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

    B.Sc. degree in relevant disciplines such as Zoology, Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, etc; as approved by Senate.

    HND in relevant fields as approved by Senate

    FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE (4 or 5 Year Programme)

    Admission Requirements

    O’ Level Subjects

    Candidates are required to have five O'Level credits in English, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science/Fishing/Animal Husbandry, Chemistry, and one of Physics, Geography, Economics, Civic Education, Food and Nutrition, Integrated Science, and Information Technology. Please note that,
    1. For Food Science and Technology and Nutrition and Dietetics, candidates must possess five O’ Level credits to include Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
    2. For Environmental Management and Control, candidates must possess five O’ level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology/Agric. Science, Chemistry and one of Physics, Geography or Economics.

    UTME Subjects

    English Language, Chemistry, Biology & Physics/Mathematics

    Direct Entry

    1. NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant programmes.
    2. At least two Advanced Level passes to include Chemistry and any one of the following Biology/Botany, Zoology/Agricultural Science, Economics, Physics, Geography, and Sociology
    3. IJMB, JUPEB at acceptable grade levels in relevant subjects
    4. HND holders from a recognized Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credit.
    5. Candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in 2(a) above.
    6. For Nutrition and Dietetics, candidates must possess: NCE/ND or approved equivalent in Food and Nutrition or be a Registered Nurse or approved equivalent in relevant fields.

    FACULTY OF HUMANITIES (3 or 4 Year Programme)

    Entry Requirements

    • All applicants are required to have credits in at least five O` Level (5) subjects at SSCE, GCE, NECO, or approved equivalent.
    • The five (5) credits must include English language and other specific departmental requirements. 
    • The five credits must be obtained at not more than two sittings.
    • Candidates awaiting results are required to apply.

    • IJMB/JUPEB/International Baccalaureate Certificate at acceptable grade levels.

    For Music the five O` Level Credits to include English Language plus three other Arts or Social Science subjects. A recognized certificate in Music from approved institution will be an advantage.

    (c) Direct Entry

    • At least two Advanced Level passes in Literature and one other Arts subject.
    • IJMB/JUPEB at acceptable grade levels.
    • Diploma in Theatre Arts/Dramatic Arts from an accredited institution.
    • For Music at least two Advanced Level passes or equivalents including Music. NCE/ND or approved equivalent in relevant subjects or ABRSM London Grade viii.
    • Candidates must satisfy the O` Level requirements as stated above.

    Candidates seeking admission to the Faculty of Science must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics in addition to specific departmental requirements.

    (c) Direct Entry

    • NCE/ND or approved equivalent with at least Merit and Upper Credit respectively in the relevant fields.
    • IJMB, JUPEB, Cambridge Moderated School of Basic Studies, GCE Advanced Level or approved equivalents at acceptable grade levels in Mathematics and Physics
    • Candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (4b) above.
    • Direct Entry candidates are required to apply through JAMB.

    Department of Mathematics and Statistics

    (a) Degree Programmes

    Admission Requirements

    (b) O’ Level Subjects

    (i) Mathematics

    The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects from Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Geography, Computer Studies, Economics, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing.

    (ii) Statistics

    The five O’ Level credits to include English Language, Mathematics, Physics and any other two subjects from Statistics, Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Computer Studies, Geography, Economics, Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing.

    (c) Direct Entry

    • At least two GCE Advanced Level passes to include Mathematics and any one of Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Statistics and Physics.
    • IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent at an acceptable grade level.
    • For Statistics, a Diploma in Statistics from a recognized university is acceptable.
    • Candidates must satisfy the O’ level requirements as stated in (5b i & ii) above

    (d) UTME Subjects

    English Language, Mathematics and any other two relevant subjects.

    Department of Physics and Solar Energy

    (c) Direct Entry

    • At least two GCE Advanced Level Passes in Mathematics and Physics. In exceptional cases, Physics and Chemistry may be considered.
    • IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or approved equivalent.
    • HND holders from a recognised Polytechnic with a minimum of Lower Credits in Physics or Physics with Electronics or Electrical and Electronics Engineering may be admitted to 300 Level.
    • Candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated in (6b) above.

    Candidates seeking admission to the Faculty of Engineering must possess a minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Passes in English Language and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, in addition to specific departmental requirements.

    • HND holders with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized Polytechnic in Public Administration, Local Government Studies, and Political Economy.
    • Candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated in (5b) above.

    • At least two Advanced Level passes to include Sociology, Psychology, Economics, History or Government, Geography, and Religious Studies.
    • IJMB/JUPEB/NCE/ND or its approved equivalent.
    • HND holders with a minimum of Upper Credit from a recognized Polytechnic in approved Sociology related subjects.
    • Candidates must satisfy the O’ Level requirements as stated above.
