UNILORIN welcomes holders of M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M., and M.P.H. degrees to apply for Ph.D. degree programmes. To be eligible, candidates must have scored a minimum of 60% or 4 points on a 5-point GPA scale in their Master's degree programmes. The Ph.D. programme duration ranges from 36 to 60 calendar months for full-time candidates. Throughout the program, students will undertake relevant courses and complete a thesis to showcase their research findings.
2. M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Programmes: Embark on a Research Journey
For candidates who scored between 55.00 and 59.99 percent or obtained a GPA score of 3.50 – 3.99 on a 5-point scale, the M.Phil./Ph.D. degree programme awaits. This program spans a minimum of 12 calendar months to a maximum of 24 calendar months. As part of the programme, candidates will conduct research and produce a dissertation highlighting their scholarly work.

If you scored between 50.00 and 54.99 percent or obtained a GPA score of 3.00 – 3.49 on a 5-point scale, the M.Phil. degree programme is an ideal choice. The programme's duration is a minimum of 18 calendar months, with a maximum of 24 calendar months. A dissertation is a mandatory requirement for the successful completion of the programme.

Eligibility for Academic Programmes
Before submitting your application, it's essential to familiarize yourself with the general eligibility requirements. These requirements include:
- All entry certificate requirements should be readily available during the application process.
- National Youth Service Corp Discharge Certificate OR Exemption Certificate should be dated and submitted on or before June 30, 2024.
- Applicants are required to complete the online application forms and attach scanned copies of their credentials.
- A minimum of 5 O/L Credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, is mandatory.
- Applicants should initiate the process of obtaining their official Bachelor's degree transcript early and ensure it is sent to the Head of the Department before the application deadline.

Application Fees
To complete the application process, applicants are required to pay a non-refundable fee. The application fee is set at N25,000.00 (Twenty-five Thousand Naira) for Nigerian applicants and $200.00 for international applicants.
Method of Application
The application process is conducted exclusively online, and the submission deadline is 30th June 2024. Supporting documents must be received no later than Friday, 30th June 2024. Notifications regarding the application status will be communicated through the UNILORIN application portal.

Kindly note that a qualifying examination will be held on Saturday, 8th July 2024. To ensure seamless communication and further updates, all applicants are advised to provide functional GSM numbers and email addresses.

- The Postgraduate academic session for all programmes is 12 calendar months, commencing on 23rd October and concluding on 30th September of the following year. The duration begins automatically from the date of first registration.
- Candidates should be aware that programmes automatically expire at the end of the prescribed maximum duration. However, candidates have the option to apply for an extension, not exceeding 6 months for the first instance, with a maximum of two such extensions permitted.
