List of Courses Offered in UNICAL (University of Calabar) – The University of Calabar (UNICAL) is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Nigeria. It was established in 1975 as a federal university and is located in Calabar, Cross River State. UNICAL offers a wide range of academic programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, spanning various fields of study.

Admission Requirements for UNICAL Courses

To gain admission into any of the courses offered in UNICAL, candidates must meet the following requirements:

UTME Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must have reached the age of 16.
  • Candidates must have at least 6 (six) “Cs (Credits)” grades in their O’level result (s). This must include English Language, Mathematics and three other subjects related to their course of study. For instance, a Candidate that wants to study law must have a “ C ” in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History, Economics and Literature in English.
  • Candidates must score at least 160 in JAMB UTME examination
  • Candidates must take UNICAL post UTME screening examination and must perform very well in the examination (Depending on the course of study)
  • Not more than ONE sitting results is accepted for admission into the University of Calabar (UNICAL)
  • Candidates must choose the correct subject combination for their courses.
  • Finally, candidates must meet the stipulated cutoff marks for their courses to gain admission into the university.

Direct Entry Admission Requirements

  • Candidates must possess at least five (5) Credits in their O’level result. This must include English Language and Mathematics. However, two-sitting result is not allowed.
  • Candidates must have also reached the age of 16.
  • Candidates are expected to get JAMB Direct entry form from JAMB to apply.
  • Candidates should have any of the following certificates: OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, and ICAN. 
  • Candidates must have a minimum of Upper Credit for OND/ND or Lower Credit for HND in relevant courses.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 9 points for IJMB or Cambridge A level or a minimum of 13 points for NCE.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of Second Class Lower for BSc or Second Class Upper for ICAN in relevant courses.
  • Candidates must also meet the O’level and UTME requirements for their chosen courses.

How to Apply for UNICAL Admission

  1. Candidates who wish to apply for admission into UNICAL must follow the steps below:
  2. Visit the JAMB website and create a profile
  3. Generate and print a confirmation code and PIN
  4. Go to any accredited bank and pay the sum of ₦3,500 for UTME or ₦5,000 for DE.
  5. After payment, collect your ePIN and receipt
  6. Visit the JAMB website again and complete your registration.
  7. Choose UNICAL as your first choice of institution.
  8. Print out your registration slip and keep it safe.
  9. Wait for UNICAL to announce the date for post-UTME screening.
  10. Visit the UNICAL website and register for the post-UTME screening with your JAMB registration number and ePIN.
  11. Print out your post-UTME slip and bring it along to the screening venue.
  12. Check your post-UTME result and admission status on the UNICAL website or JAMB CAPS portal.
